The present tense¶
Present simple¶
When something is a fact (always true)
for example:
- I think you are right. (think, believe, know)
- My father is 63 years old.
When something is a habit
for example:
- John smokes 10 cigarettes a day (phrases like: every week, twice a month, sometimes, etc.)
- I sometimes go to the cinema. My sister play tennis twice a week.
Spelling:¶
- Consonant + y = ie ; e.g. carry → carries
- Vowel + y = y ; e.g. play → plays
- -es with words that end with an s-sound, e.g. kiss → kisses
Consonants are: b, c, f, g, h, m, n, etc. Vowels are: a, e, i, o, u, y
y is a vowel in happy and gym y is a consonant in yellow and yogurt
Present continuous¶
When something happens right now:
- He is working very hard right now and cannot be disturbed
