The past tense

The Past Simple

When something clearly happened in the past. It is used with words like: yesterday, last week, last year, one year ago, etc.

example: We went to london last year

I worked I taught

They worked They taught
  • When you use an irregular verb make sure you know all the right forms.
consonant + y = ie vowel + y = y
carry play
carried played

The Past Continuous

When something happened for a while in the past

Example: My mother was working when I came in

I was working
You were working
He/She/It was working
We were working
You were working
They were working
