Finalizing Concept Discussion¶
On the 25th of April we were due to show our game concepts to our product owner, so the concept could be finalized and the next stage of game development could begin.
However, there was some conflict between people on the team and their visions on what concept would be used to build the game on. Even after having had a chat with the product owner, the team wasn’t in agreement on what to do.
The product owner’s choice was to use Marwan’s Nanomachines concept aesthetics and combine it with the gameplay elements from Benjamin’s Asteroid Crash, Stef’s Airspace Invaders and Valentijn’s Military Surge.
However, both Stef and I (Benjamin) were not quite assured this was the right call.
So I called a team meeting so we could properly decide on what we wanted to do with the game.
I made a list of points I wished to implement into the game from each member:
Benjamin’s wishes:¶
- Upgrading system
- Powerups
- Sidescrolling
- Near-dodge
- Minibosses/bosses
Stef’s wishes:¶
- Airplanes/fighters
- Difficulty curve
- Ammo
- Distinct enemy designs
Valentijn’s wishes:¶
- Upgrade systeem
- Powerups
- Difficulty changes
Marwan’s wishes:¶
- Bloodstream/body aesthetic
- Dodging focus
Final result¶
After talking through some struggles and concerns, mainly concerning the setting and the dangers of dedicating to a bodily aesthetic. The result of this discussion and the document detailing the final concept can be found here.
